Comoros - French Protectorate: Royal Order
of the Star of Anjouan, Knight's Star.
Marked on the ring.
The Order was established in 1874, in 5
classes, by Mohamed Said Omar, Sultan of
Anjouan, to reward services to the Sultanate
and to France.
It became a French Colonial Order in 1896 and
it was discontinued by France in 1963, being
replaced by the National Order of Merit.
The Order remained however in use by the
Sultanate until Anjouan joined independent
Comoros in 1975.
This is a nice example of the interwar era.
