Imperial Germany - Baden: Commemorative Medal
for the Campaign of 1848-1849.
Scarce gilt example for officers (while the gilt
wash is faded, it is still visible in the center of the
medal on both sides).
The medal was designed by Kachel.
Reverse: "To the Brave Army of Liberation 1849"
The medal was instituted by Grand Duke Leopold,
in 1849 to be awarded for participation in the 1849
campaign that managed (with the support of the
Prussian Army) to suppress the rebellion against
his Regime, in Baden.
The Revolution of Baden is considered as part of
the March Revolution, a revolutionary unrest that
gripped almost all of Central Europe.
The medal was awarded to Officers, soldiers,
NCOs and civilian personnel that was employed
by the Army.
