Imperial Germany - Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg:
Silver Medal of Merit of the Ducal Saxe-Ernestine
House Order. Issue of Duke Ernst II.
Marked "Silber 990" (Silver 990) on the rim.
Signed by O. Pech.
Maker marked: L.CHR. LAUER NURNBERG
The Order was instituted in 1833 and the medal
was amended to this version with the portrait of
Duke Ernst II by Otto Pech, in 1908 when the
young duke assumed his office following the
death of his Uncle Ernst I.
The medal was issued for Meritorious Services to
the Homeland.
It was produced by Ludwig Christoph Lauer of
Nuremberg and was suppressed after the end of
WW1, in 1918 - thus being issued for just 10 years.
A very rare medal.
