Italy WWI Silver Military Cross with Crown for Long Service XVI for 40 Years for NCOs by the Military Union Marked 800

ITALY: Silver Military Cross for 25 or 40 years of 
Service for NCOs (Non Commissioned Officers) 
and other ranks (despite of the XVI (16 years) 
inscription on it!!!). 
The Cross was instituted by royal decree in 1912. 
The royal decree described as base award the 
Cross for the 16 (XVI) years of service and 
instructed that the Crosses of the awards for 
more years (25 and 40 years) would keep "the 
same cross" with the addition of the Crown.  
As a result of the unclear decree this same 
cross (XVI) was officially awarded for 25 or 40 
years of service while some makers adopted the 
numbers XXV (25) and XL (40) for their 
respective crosses.
This is the official example, by the Military Union, 
marked "800" for silver construction, between 
the arms of the Cross.
