PORTUGAL: Medal of the Portuguese Legion for
Good Conduct and Diligence - Bronze (3rd) Class.
The Portuguese Legion (Legião Portuguesa) was
established in 1936 (during the Presidency of
Antonio Salazar) and it was a fascist orientated,
state supervised, paramilitary organization.
Its stated objectives were to "defend the spiritual
heritage" and to "fight the communist threat and
anarchism".
During WW2, the Portuguese Legion was the only
state organization of Portugal that openly adopted
and defended the Axis goals.
The Legion was dissolved in 1974.
