Following the end of WW2, Germany was divided by the Allied Forces,
into several occupational zones (4 Major zones and 3 Minor zones).
The Belgian zone was formed as a corridor from the Belgian-German
border to the edge of the Soviet zone, and it included the important town
of Cologne.
The Belgian army of occupation, the Belgian Forces in Germany
(FBA-BSD), was formed by soldiers of the former Free Belgian forces,
it was commanded initially by General Jean-Baptiste Piron and remained
under British command until 1946 - acting autonomusly ever since.
