FRANCE: Mutual Security (or Mutual Assistance) bronze medal.
Signed by the medallist Louis Oscar Roty (1846-1911).
The medal was established in 1852 but its public wear was permitted
in 1898. The award was authorized by the Ministry of Labor and Social
Providence in order to reward exceptional services by members of the
various "Societies for Mutual Security" (Philanthropic societies that
were providing assistance for the unemployed and sick, in the time
prior of the establishment of the State Social Security system).
