FRANCE: Medal of Honor for the Civil Personnel
of the French Navy, bronze class.
Attributed to: Jean Lossouarne, dated 1922
Hallmarked and maker marked by the Paris
Mint on the rim.
The award was instituted in 1894 in order to
reward civil personnel of the Ministry of
Defense working on behalf of the French
Navy.
The bronze class was initially awarded for
30 years of consecutive service but since
1976 the service needed to qualify for the
award was lowered to 25 years.
This is the an early example of the 1st
version of the medal that was awarded
until 1978.
