The Free State of Thuringia was established in
1920 following the unification of the former
Thuringian Duchies (Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach,
Saxe-Meiningen, Saxe-Altenburg, Gotha,
Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, Schwarzburg-
Rudolstadt and the two principalities of Reuss
Elder Line and Reuss Younger Line).
The Thuringian State Association of the Red
Cross was established in 1920 while the medal
was introduced in 1922 in 3 Classes and was
awarded until 1933.
This is the 1st Class of the medal awarded for
10 years meritorious service.
The award is rare.
