Netherlands: Set of 3 Military medals, mounted on
bar.
From left to right:
- Military Cross "for the Order & Peace".
With clasp for the year 1949.
The Cross was instituted in 1947 and was issued to
military personnel with a minimum of 3 months
service in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia)
between 1945 and 1949, following the Indonesian
revolt against the Dutch Colonial Authorities.
Being under pressure by the local resistance and
guerilla warfare and the escalating international
criticism, the Dutch withdrew in 1949 & Indonesia
became independent.
- New Guinea Commemorative Cross.
The Cross was instituted in 1962 and awarded to
members of the Dutch armed forces (and some
foreigners) who served at least three months in
Dutch New Guinea or its territorial waters between
28 Dec. 1949 and 23 Nov. 1962.
Dutch New Guinea was part of the Dutch East
Indies from 1898 to 1949 and following the
Indonesian independence, a separate colony
preparing for its own independence. Indonesia
invaded in Dec. 1961, the colony became a United
Nations mandate in Oct. 1962, was transferred to
Indonesia in May 1963 and subsequently was
annexed in 1969. The cross is scarce.
- Officer's Decoration (Cross) for XV (15) years
of honorable military service.
Although the mark is not visible, this is a typical
example by J.M.I van Wielik, in Haag.
