USA: Army of Occupation Medal.
On the obverse: the Ludendorff railway bridge at
Remagen.
On the reverse: 2 Japanese fishing boats and
Mount Fuji in the horizon.
The medal was instituted in 1946 and was
awarded for 30 or more consecutive days of
duty in occupied zones as follows:
Germany (09 May 1945 to 05 May 1955), Austria
(09 May 1945 to 07 July 1955), Berlin (09 May 1945
to 02 Oct. 1990), Italy (09 May to 15 Sep. 1947,
Japan (03 Sep. 1945 to 27 Apr. 1952) and Korea
(03 Sep. 1945 to 29 Jun. 1949).
The 1st recipient of the medal was General Dwight
D. Eisenhower on 2 Apr. 1947 followed by General
Douglas MacArthur the same day.
