Belgium: Commemorative Medal for the 25th 
Anniversary of the Battle and Siege of Liege. 
Signed by Fibru.
The medal was awarded by the City of Liege, in 
1939, to the surviving veterans who had 
defended Liege against the German forces in 
1914 ( 5 -16 Aug.). 
The city garrison of 70.000 Belgians and 12 forts 
managed to repulse the initial attacks of the 
German 2nd Army (General Ludendorff, 320.000 
men) but the city finally fell to the German hands.
