Imperial Germany- Saxe Meiningen: WW1 Medal
for War Merit, 1915.
On original ribbon for combatants, on lady's bow -
format for female recipients.
A scarce combination.
Rare early example in bronze.
The later examples were made in war metal (zinc
alloy) due to the reservation of bronze for the war
industry.
The medal was instituted in 1915 by Duke
Bernard III and was awarded to NCOs and other
ranks for military merit in front of the enemy.
A very rare medal as only 24.000 in total were
awarded as the population of the Duchy of Saxe
Meiningen was below 300.000 inhabitants.
