Leopold I was the 1st Belgian King after the 
Independence of the country from the Netherlands. 
During his reign and despite the initial first decade 
of unrest and the several conflicts that erupted in 
the European continent, the newly formed country 
of Belgium managed to maintain its stability and 
cohesion.
