Elisabeth, circubscribed:
"Elisabeth, Queen of the Belgians"
On the reverse: A seated nurse holding a
field lamp, circumscribed:
"For Country, Honor and Charity".
Dated 1914-1916.
The medal was instituted in 1915 and awarded
to both Belgian and foreign citizens for
humanitarian and medical services to Belgian
victims of the Great War.
Among the recipients of the medal were many
American doctors and nurses who offered
their voluntary services, as the US was at the
time a neutral State.
The medal is rare.
