On the obverse: The Royal Cipher of Tsar
Boris III circumscribed "ОТЛИЧНА СЛУЖБА"
(Outstanding Service) and the symbol (X)
for 10 Years of Service.
On the reverse: The Bulgarian crowned lion
rampant.
The Medal of Merit was instituted in 1889 to
be awarded to officers, non commissioned
officers (NCOs)and other ranks who had
served in the Bulgarian Army for minimum
10 years with diligence and exemplary
conduct.
The silvered cross as of this example was
awarded to officers while a similar cross in
bronze was awarded to NCOs and other
ranks.
The medal was awarded in this form during
the period of Tsar Boris III (1918-1944).
