Vatican: Medal "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice" Cross,
1st Class, "gold" (silver gilt, marked 800 for silver
purity).
The decoration was established in 1888 by Pope
Leo XIII, in 3 classes, to be awarded to those who
had significant contribution on his Golden Jubilee
and the Vatican Exposition.
Since 1898 it is awarded to members of the
Church (clergy) and civilians as a recognition of
outstanding service to the Pope or the Catholic
Church.
