Austro-Hungarian Empire: Patriotic Medal of 
Andreas Hofer (freedom fighter of Tirol (Tyrol), 
1767-1810) 
The medal was issued in 1909 by the Andreas 
Hofer Association in Wien on the occasion of the 
Unveiling of the "Sachsenklemme" War Memorial 
Monument on the Centenary of the War for the 
Independence of Tirol, 1809 1909. 
The monument was dedicated to the freedom 
fighters of Tirol who died to defend the province 
against the French-Saxon troops in 1809 in the 
Eisack Valley.
