Austria-Hungary: WW1 propaganda pendant
miniature book with Kaiser Franz Joseph's
"Manifesto to my Peoples, May 23 1915", following
Italy's Declaration of War on Austria-Hungary.
Obverse: Kaiser Franz Joseph's portrait, with
the inscription "An Meine Volker" (To My Peoples).
Reverse: "Das Manifest des Kaisers, 23 Mai 1915)
(The Emperor's Manifesto, May 23, 1915).
At the outbreak of WW1 Italy initially declared
neutrality, despite being a member of the Triple
Alliance alongside Germany and Austria-Hungary
since 1882.
In 1915 however, Italy surprisingly declared war
on Austria-Hungary, entering WW1 on the side of
the Allies, aiming to the annexation of the
Austrian Littoral and northern Dalmatia, Trento
and South Tirol.
A scarce patriotic item.
