replaced, in 1917, the respective one of Kaiser
Franz Joseph I.
The initial medal was established in 1886 and
was until 1911 (when the silver class was
instituted) the highest merit award of the Austro-
Hungarian Empire.
On original war time ribbon.
Marked "Bronze" on the rim.
