Belgium: WW2 Commemorative Medal, 1940-
1945, with Crossed Swords for Combatants
of the 1940 defensive campaign and clasp
"Liege 1940".
The clasp was awarded to the defenders of
the ring of 12 forts that were built around Liege
(the most formidable of these was Eben-Emael).
These forts were designed to prevent the
crossing of the River Meuse and the Albert
Canal.
On the obverse: The Belgian Lion between
the arms of a "V" (for Victory).
On the reverse: "Commemorative Medal of
the War 1940-1945", in French and Flemish.
The medal was established in 1946.
