Zaire Military Merit Cross 1st Class with Palms

Zaire - Congo: Cross of Military Merit 1st Class 
with Palms, inscribed RZ (Republic of Zaire), 
example since 1971.
The Cross had been instituted in the late 1960s. 
In 1971 it was amended to this form as Congo 
changed its name to Zaire. 
The medal maintained the inscription RZ until 
1997 when the country reverted to being called 
the Democratic Republic of Congo and the 
form was once again amended to RDC.
This is an early example of the 1970s. 
The Cross is rare especially with gilt palms 
on the ribbon.
