FRANCE: WW2 Commemorative medal, with the
clasps "France", "Liberation" and "Atlantic":
The clasps were awarded as follows:
- "Atlantique" (Atlantic): for participation in the
naval operations (mainly the ASW-antisub
warfare) in the Atlantic Ocean. A very rare clasp.
- "Liberation": for the operations in Metropolitan
France and the island of Corsica during the period
25 June 1940 - 8 May 1945.
- The clasp "France" was issued for the operations
during the initial stage of WW2 and until the
capitulation of France (3 Sep. 1939 - 25 Jun. 1940).
The medal was instituted in 1946 and was
awarded to the members of the French Armed
Forces who participated in the War between 3
Sep. 1939 and 8 May 1945.
Signed by F. Josse and G. Simon, hallmarked
bronze by the Paris Mint.
