Imperial Germany - Kingdom of Bavaria:
Service Commemorative Badge of Prince
Alfons of Bavaria, Gold (gilt) Class.
Marked on the reverse: "DRGM 354276"
(Deutsches Reichs Gebrauchs Muster -
German Empire Registered Pattern).
Maker marked: M. Heinloth.
The award is a private initiation of the Royal
Bavarian Family (Prince Alfons, Maria, Franz,
Clemens, Maximilian of Bavaria).
It was instituted in 2 classes (gold (gilt) and
silver) during the era of the Weimar Republic
and after the fall of Monarchy in Bavaria.
It is an unofficial award issued for both
personal services to the Bavarian Royal
family but also as awards related to military
service during WW1, hunting and shooting
performance during events of respective
associations etc.
The color of the ribbon indicates the general
category of the award.
The ribbon of this example shows that the
award is related to shooting performance.
The awards continued even after the death of
Prinz Alfons (1933) with the last being
documented in the 1950s.
The award is rare in all its classes.
