GERMANY-Imperial Navy (Kaiserliche Marine):
Set of 3 medals mounted on large bar.
From left to right:
- WW1 "Marine Cross" (or "Flanders Cross") on
its original ribbon with 4 clasps (SOMME,
YSER, YPRES, FLANDERNSCHLACHT (Battle
of Flanders) for participation in the respective
battles.
With its diploma of issue.
The Flanders Cross was instituted in 1921 as
an unofficial veterans award.
Just like the majority of the Veteran awards of
the Weimar Republic, only the diploma was
actually issued.
The Cross and the respective clasps had to
be purchased privately by the recipients.
Only roughly 30.000 Crosses were authorized.
- WW1 Hindenburg Cross with swords for
Combatants.
- Kingdom of Baden, Silver Medal of Merit.
Interesting set as the 4 bars of the Flanders
Cross are mounted on the ribbon of the
Hindenburg Cross while the Flanders Cross
itself is mounted on ribbon for the Iron Cross.
Also the swords on the ribbon of the Iron
Cross, normally should have been placed on
the ribbon of the Hindenburg Cross.
