Imperial Germany: Authentic WW1 propaganda
postcard showing ruins in Lille following the
explosion, on 11 January 1916, that destroyed the
ammunition depot of the 18 Bridges bastion. The
toll was heavy: 134 dead, including 104 civilians
and nearly 400 injured. In addition 21 factories and
738 houses were destroyed..
The postcard was written by a member of the
Marinekorps Flandern, Marine-Divisions-Orts-
Ersatz-Kommandantur H.18 (Naval Corps Flanders,
Naval Divisions, Local Replacement Command).
Dated 1916.
