Officially attributed to:
1900 PTE. P. BENSON S. LAN. R. (Private, South
Lancashire Regiment).
The medal comes with copies of the recipient's
service record.
The South Lancashire Regiment was formed in
1881 consisted initially of 2 battalions.
During WWI the Regiment expanded to a total
strength of 21 battalions. They served on the
Western Front, at Gallipoli, and in Macedonia,
Egypt, Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) and
India.
The 1914-15 Star was instituted in 1918 and
was awarded for service in any theater of
operations between 5 Aug. 1914 and 31 Dec.
1915 provided that the recipient had not
already been awarded the 1914 Star.
