Great Britain: Queen's General Service medal
with clasp "Malaya".
The medal is officially named in capital letters
to an NCO of the RAPC:
19075582 SGT. L. LAUGHLIN. R.A.P.C.
(Sergeant, Royal Army Paying Corps)
The General Service medal was instituted in
1918 to recognize service in Army and Air
Force operations for which the issuance of a
separate medal was not intended.
The medal was amended to this form, with
the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in 1962.
The "Malaya" clasp was awarded for active
service in Malaya (Malaysia) between 1948
and 1963 against Communist insurgents.
