Greece 1st Balkan War Commemorative Medal 1912 1913 with 3 Clasps (Chios Lesvos, Ioannina, Aetorrahi)

Greece: Commemorative Medal for the 1st 
Balkan War against Ottoman Turkey in 1912- 
1913. 
With 3 scarce clasps - a combination of bars 
that was only awarded to about 200 Cretan 
Volunteers who took part in the initial 
operations for the Liberation of Chios (11 Nov. 
- 20 Dec. 1912) and later on in the Battles of 
Aetorrahi (01 Dec. - 09 Dec 1912) and Ioannina 
(23 Jan. - 06 Mar. 1913). 
The clasps:
- Chios-Lesvos: The clasp was awarded to 
about 5000 men of the infantry and marine
contingents, volunteer units and ship's 
companies who took part in the operations 
for the liberation of the 2 islands (Nov-Dec. 
1912). The clasp is scarce.
- Aetorrahi: The clasp was awarded for the 
Battle of Aetorrahi (01 Dec. - 09 Dec. 1912) 
that opened the road towards Ioannina. 
The clasp is scarce as it was only awarded 
to men of the Cretan Volunteer Regiment, 
to the 1st Evzonoi Regiment (Special 
Units of Light Infantry - the Royal Guard at 
the time, the Presidential Guard today) of 
the VI Infantry Division and to the men of the 
"Tavoularis" Mountain Artillery Battery (aprox. 
3000 awards in total). 
- Ioannina: The clasp was awarded for the 
Siege of Ioannina and the Battle of Bizani 
(Bezanie) - 23 Jan.- 06 Mar. 1913. The clasp 
is rare (aprox. 45.000 awards).
During the 1st Balkan War the alliance of 
Greece, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Serbia 
liberated the remaining Christian populations 
of the European territories from the Ottoman 
Empire. 
The War ended with the Treaty of London in 
1913 but soon the 2nd Balkan War started, 
this time against Bulgaria. 
The medal was instituted in 1914.
