Hungary: WW2 Commemorative Military Medal
for the Liberation of South Hungary.
Made of zinc alloy (war time metal, as bronze
and iron were reserved for the war needs).
The medal was instituted in 1941 to mark the
annexation of Bacska and Baranya areas
to Hungary (the Provinces had been ceded
to Yugoslavia after the end of WW1, in 1920)
following the participation of the Hungarian
forces in the invasion of Yugoslavia.
The decision (and the award) were annulled
after the end of WW2 and the 2 areas were
returned to Yugoslavia (as Vojvodina).
