Patriotic badge, in stickpin format, with the
portrait of the German Generalfeldmarschall
Gottlieb Graf von Haeseler (Field Marshal
Gottlieb Count of Haeseler).
Haeseler was born in Potsdam. He entered
the Prussian Army as Lieutenant in 1853
and became aide-de-camp of Prince Frederick
Charles of Prussia in 1860. He served in the
Danish-Prussian War (1864), the Germnan
Civil War (1866), and the Franco-Prussian War
(1870–71). In the period 1890-1903 he was
General of the Cavalry and head of the XVI
Army Corps in Metz. In 1905 he received the
rank of a Generalfeldmarschall. He became a
member of the Prussian House of Lords in
1903. He died in 1919.
These badges were issued for fund raising
purposes in order to support the war effort.
The badge is rare.
