Hungary: WW2 Commemorative Medal for the
Liberation of Transylvania (Siebenburgen).
Made of zinc alloy.
The medal was instituted in 1940 to mark the
annexation of the north-western part of
Transylvania to Hungary (the Province had
been ceded to Romania following the end
of WW1).
Under German and Italian arbitration (in
Vienna, in 1940) Romania ceded the NW part
of Transylvania to Hungary. The decision (and
the award) were annulled after the end of WW2
and the territory returned to Romania.
