The Red Cross of Luxembourg was established 
on the initiative of Grand Duchess Marie-Adelaide 
in Aug. 1914. 
The Red Cross medal was established in this 
form, in 1964, in 3 classes (bronze, silver and 
gold) by Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte.  
The medal was issued during her entire service 
as President of the Red Cross of Luxembourg 
(1964-2005), for meritorious services to the 
Organization.
A rare medal, given the small population of 
Luxembourg.
