Germany WWII OFLAG XVIII PoW Dog Tag (Identity Plaque) of a Belgian Officer (Army Captain) Numbered

Germany: WW2 Dog Tag (Identity Plaque) of the 
Oflag XVIII, numbered 1811. 
The dog tag comes with the original photo of the 
Belgian Officer PoW (it looks like a Captain) as it 
was taken during his initial registration at the 
camp. Please note the number 1811 both on the 
photo and on the dog tag. Oflags (Offizierslager) 
were PoW camps especially for officers. 
The Oflag XVIII was located in the Austrian 
province of Carinthia, near the city of Wolfsburg. 
It opened in 1939 and the first prisoners were 
Polish officers and later on, in 1940, Belgians and 
French. 
A large number of British and Commonwealth 
officers were transferred to the camp after the 
Battles of Greece and Crete in 1941. 
The last prisoners were liberated by the British 
8th Army in 1945.
