On the obverse: The portrait of King Haakon VII,
circumscribed “HAAKON VII NORGES KONGE”
(Haakon VII King of Norway).
On the reverse: The crowned cypher of King
Haakon VII.
Signed by the engraver Ivan Throndsen.
The medal was instituted in 1957 in memory of
King Haakon VII on the occasion of his burial,
on 01 Oct. 1957.
It was awarded in two grades - silver and gold.
to members of the Royal Family, foreign Royal
Houses and guests at the funeral, members of
the Royal Court staff, as well as persons who
had duties related to the king's funeral.
In total, 26 medals were awarded in gold (to
members of the Royal Family and to high
ranked Officers of the military) and 54 medals
were awarded in silver, mostly to Officers of
the Army, Navy and Air Force in charge of the
Honor Detachments at the funeral.
