Romania: WW1 Commemorative War Cross 
(1916 – 1918) with 2 clasps (Ardeal and Jiu).
The medal was instituted in 1918 and was 
awarded to military and civilian personnel 
for service during the Great War. 
Romania entered the War in 1916 on the 
Entente side, despite the alliance of the 
country with both Germany and the 
Austro-Hungarian Empire and the fact that 
the Romanian Royal House was of German 
origin.
The clasps:
- “Ardeal”:  for the operations in Transylva-
nia.
- “Jiu”: for the operations in the valley of the 
River Jiu and at Targu Jiu (Southern Sub-
Carpathians) between 23 Oct. and 17 Nov. 
1916. The clasp is rare.
The Cross is hard to find, especially with 
original clasps.
