Kingdom of Romania: Silver Medal of Military 
Virtue, King Carol I issue - 2nd Class, 2nd Type 
(War time issue).
The medal was instituted in this form (War Variant) 
in 1880 by King Carol I and was awarded to non-
commissioned officers (NCOs) and other ranks 
for acts of bravery in the field. 
The medal was awarded in this form until 1916 
and  was until 1947 the highest ranking Romanian 
award (cross or medal).
This an early, quality example.
