Romania: WW1 Commemorative War Cross
(1916 – 1918) with 5 clasps (Marasesti, Carpati,
Oituz, Bukuresti, Dobrogea).
The medal was instituted in 1918 and was
awarded to military and civilian personnel
for service during the Great War.
Romania entered the War in 1916 on the
Entente side, despite the alliance of the
country with both Germany and the
Austro-Hungarian Empire and the fact that
the Romanian Royal House was of German
origin.
The clasps:
- “Marasesti”: for the Battle of Marasesti
(Aug. 6, 1917 – Sept. 3, 1917), the last major
battle against Germany.
- “Carpati”: for the operations on the Carpa-
thian Mountains
- “Bucuresti”: for the battle of Bucharest
(also known as the Battle of Neajlov-Arges)
which took place between 29 Nov. and 3 Dec.
1916.
The bar is quite rare.
- “Oituz”: for the battle of Oituz which took
place between 06 Aug. and 22 Aug. 1917.
The bar is very rare.
- “Dobrogea”: for the battle of Bazargic (also
known as the Battle of Dobrich or the Dobrich
epopee) which took place between 05 Sep.
and 07 Sep. 1916.
The bar is scarce.
The Cross is hard to find, especially with
original clasps.
