Austro-Hungarian Empire: Patriotic badge with the
portrait of Kaiser Karl, the last Emperor of Austria -
Hungary.
Inscribed: Archduke Carl, Army Front, 1916.
By Winter & Adler in Vienna.
The badge communicates the political decision of
Kaiser Karl, following the succession of Kaiser
Franz Joseph, not to remain in Vienna but to move
his Head Quarters at the front where he spent most
of his time from 1916 to the end of the War.
These pins were issued for fund raising purposes in
order to support the war effort.
They are rarer that the respective ones of Kaiser
Franz Joseph as they remained in use for just 2
years (1917-1918) and were zinc made due to
bronze being reserved for the war needs.
