Austro-Hungarian Empire: Patriotic WW1 cap
badge of the "Army Group Colonel General
Archduke Eugen - 1916".
Maker Marked by Gurschner in Vienna.
The Army Group "Colonel General Archduke
Eugen" was named after its Commanding Officer
and was consisted of the 11th and 3rd KuK
Armies under the command of Colonel Generals
Dankl von Krasnik and Kovess respectively. The
Army Group executed the Trentino Offensive (or
Battle of Asiago), a counteroffensive launched
by the Austro-Hungarians on the Italian Front on
May 15, 1916.
The Austro-Hungarian Army initially managed to
brake through the Italian center and to advance
up to the beginning of the Venetian plain (30km
away from Vicenza).
A Russian surprise offensive however, on Jun. 4,
in Galicia, where the Russians managed to enter
Austrian soil, forced the Austro-Hungarian Chief
of the General Staff Conrad von Hötzendorf to
withdraw half of his Divisions from Trentino and
gave the Italians the chance to keep the situation
under control.
