The 6th Infantry Regiment was formed in 1762.
The outbreak of the Great War found the Regiment
stationed in Budapest, named as KuK 6th Infantry
Regiment "Carol I, King of Romania" - the King of
Romania being its honorary Commander.
The Regiment consisted of 5% Romanians, 15%
Hungarians, 30% Serbo-Croats, 40% Germans and
10% Slovaks.
Following the entry of Romania in the Great War
on the side of Entente, the name of the Regiment
changed to "KuK 6th Infantry Regiment" and the
King of Romania was removed from its honorary
command.
