Austro-Hungarian Empire: Iron Cross for Merit.
The medal was established in 1916 as the
Austrian equivalent to the German Iron Cross.
It was awarded without Crown to soldiers and
NCOs (as this example) and with Crown to
Officers.
Late issue, zinc alloy made (zinc was used
to produce the later examples as scarcity of
iron was developed due to the war needs.
