Austro-Hungarian Empire: WW1 patriotic cap
badge for the KuK Landsturm (Imperial & Royal
Militia).
Inscribed: "Landsturm Taugligh" (Able Militia)
and "In Schwerer Zeit" (In Hard Times)
Dated 1914.
Maker marked by Stoger in Vienna.
The KuK Landsturm was established in 1886 and
could only be mobilized on the orders of the
Emperor as Supreme Commander of the Armed
Forces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The compulsory conscription targeted all able men
of age 19-42. Those enrolled up to the age of 37
were defined as first call and those from 38 to 42
as second call and therefore usable only for third-
line services.
For retired military officers and officials, the
possibility of being recalled even extended until
the 60th year of age.
The badge is rare.
