Kaiser Franz Joseph, Knight's Cross. 
Bronze gilt (gold plated) and enameled award.
The Order was established in 1849 and was 
awarded for exceptional services to the Austro-
Hungarian Empire, either civil or military. 
As it was meant for outstanding services it was 
less linked to bravery in the field and more 
oriented for services of strategic and operational 
level (Diplomacy, Commanding of Large Military 
Formations etc).
On original war time ribbon. 
Maker marked on the ring: V. MAYERS und SOHN, 
WIEN (V. Mayers & Son, Vienna).
