Austria - 1st Republic: Decoration of Honor for
Services to the Austrian Republic, Great Silver
Cross, V Class, 1922 - 1934 (or Order of Merit of
the 1st Austrian Republic, Officer's Cross, 1934-
1938).
Maker marked by Souval in Vienna.
The Decoration of Honor for Services to the
Austrian Republic was instituted in 1922, in 7
Classes and 3 Medals, as the premier military
award of the newly established 1st Austrian
Republic.
It could also be awarded to non-Austrian citizens.
The Great Silver Cross as of this example was
awarded to Officers who held the rank of Major
General.
The award was restructured in 1934 and its name
changed to Austrian Order of Merit.
While the award criteria, the statues and the
classes changed the Crosses and Medals
remained the same and so did the rank of the
recipients.
The award was abolished in 1938 following the
annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany.
