Belgium Army Mobilization Medal for the Franco-Prussian War 1870 1871 Boxed

BELGIUM: Commemorative medal for the 
Mobilization of the Army during the 1870- 
1871 Franco-Prussian War.
In its luxurious box of issue.
Although Belgium didn't take active part in 
that war, a small amount of these medals 
were awarded to those that took part in the 
mobilization of the Belgian army, in order to 
prevent annexation by the 2 war rivals (but 
mainly from France). Soon the award was 
extended also to those who participated in 
disarming the soldiers and officers of the 
crushed French army, who sought shelter in 
Belgium after the French defeat in the fields 
of Sedan. 
A nice example of military history.
