the German Civil Worker Battalions
(Zivil-Arbeiter-Bataillone, ZAB) of the Great 
War 1914 1918. 
Bilingual, dated 1914 - 1918.
Presenting the Belgian Lion prevailing over 
the Prussian Eagle.
Inscribed "For You We Will Never Work" in 
French and Flemish.
Altogether, 60.000 Belgian and northern French 
civilian workers were forced into the ZAB 
where they were forced to work behind the 
German lines under harsh conditions, brutal 
treatment, illnesses and undernourishment 
that led to high mortality rates among the 
prisoners. 
Unofficial medal that was introduced right.
after the end of WW1.
It is one of the rarest WW1 Belgian medals.
