Belgium: WW1 Flemish Cross of Three Cities.
Commemorative medal for the battle of West
Flanders and mainly the battle of Ypres (Ieper)
where the Germans used chemical weapons
for first time in the history of warfare.
Obverse: The black Belgian Lion Rampant and
the names the three major Cities (DIKSMUIDE,
IEPER, NIEUPORT) of West Flanders which the
medal was named after.
Dated 1914 -1918.
Reverse: Inscribed in Flemish "VLAAMSE"
(Flemish), "ERKENTELIJKHEID" (Gratitude) and
"VLAAMS KRUIS DER DRIE STEDEN" (Flemish
Cross of the Three Cities).
The medal was issued after the end of WW1 to
Flemish military personnel who had fought at
the Province of West Flanders.
