Belgium: WW1 Maritime Decoration with Crossed
Anchors 3rd Class (Bronze).
With the Royal Cypher of King Albert.
The award was established in 1918, in 5 classes.
It was awarded to seamen aboard Belgian Ships
for distinguished outstanding wartime service,
at seas.
At the outbreak of WWI, Belgium had practically
no navy. The country assembled a small force of
Destroyers just in 1917.
The Belgian naval personnel served on board
French minesweepers and provided the gunners
for Belgian merchant ships.
Given the above facts the award was issued in
very limited numbers and the medal is very rare.
