Belgium WWI Yser Battle Bronze Commemorative Plaque 1914 1918 for Fire Card Recipients Named by Canneel

BELGIUM: Bronze WW1 Commemorative Plaque
(table medal) for the 1914 Battle of Yser, where 
the Belgian Army managed to stop the German 
advance, losing in the effort the 1/3 of its total 
strength.
Named plaque, by Eugene Canneel, attributed 
to Jean Fourier.  

These table medals are quite rare because, 
just like the Yser Crosses, they had to be 
paid by their recipients and not by the Belgian 
state. 
The medals became available for purchase in 
the late 30s and were available in 2 forms (in 
bronze or silver) to those who had received 
the "Fire Card " (a card that was issued to 
those who were actively involved in front line 
operations).
